Frequently Asked Questions

What size system will work for me?

This heavily depends on 3 factors.

  1. How much power you use.
  2. How large your roof is.
  3. How much money you want to spend.

To formulate how much power you use, check the "KwH usage" on your energy bill.

Can I install the equipment myself?

No. The system MUST be installed by our licensed electricians and BCSE certified installers.

What do I need to do to maintain the system?

Not much – Eco Solar Energy’s Systems are virtually maintenance-free. There are no moving parts to break down and all the components are very high quality with warranties from 5 to 25 years. All you need to do is keep the panels free from obstructions (eg heavy dust, leaves, etc). Ask us about our maintenance options available.

My roof doesn’t face north. Can I still install a system?

Yes you can, though you may lose some power. Up to ~15° deviation from north will not affect the performance very much (<5% loss). At 30° you will see a noticeable drop in power of ~10%. At 90° (ie East or West) you will lose approximately 30% of the power the panels are capable of producing.

Will the system work in a black-out?

Unfortunately no. The systems are required by the electricity safety regulations to switch off when there is a black-out. This prevents the inverter from feeding power into the ‘dead’ grid while technicians are working on the lines. On the plus side, as more and more homes install Eco Solar Energy’s Systems they will stabilise the grid, helping to prevent black-outs caused by over-demand.

Are there any Government incentives to help install a system?

Yes there are! Speak with one of our consultants for further information.

How much power will I save?

The power you save depends on the size system you install.

How much money will I save?

The financial savings depend on your electricity tariff. For example in NSW the feed-in tarrif rate is 60 cents per kilowatt hour for all the electricity that the system generates. Therefore if you install at 1.4kw system you will generate approximately $1,167.99 off your annual energy bill as of January 1st 2010.
