Solar Schools
Are Schools eligible for Government Rebates?
Yes. According to the National Schools Program all schools throughout Australia, primary and secondary schools (government & non government) who install a solar power system, minimum 2 kilowatt (kW) are eligible for grants of up to $50,000 for the installation of a solar power system. Schools will not only be able to improve there energy efficiency and reduce ongoing energy costs though they will be able to promote an environmentally friendly school.
Educational institutions that are not eligible for a grant include kindergartens, early childhood centres, preschools, TAFE, colleges and universities.
Schools that have received Green Vouchers for Schools funding will have this amount deducted from their National Solar Schools Program grant.
Solar Energy & Schools – The Benefits
The National Solar Schools Program has been designed so that schools can benefit from the following:
- generate their own electricity from renewable sources (solar energy systems)
- improve their energy efficiency and reduce their energy consumption and
- provide educational benefits for school students and their communities.
