SOLAR BONUS SCHEME

NSW Solar Bonus Scheme NOW AVAILABLE!

The key features of NSW Solar Bonus Scheme include:

  • It will credit eligible customers with a 'gross' feed-in tariff rate of 60 cents per kilowatt hour for all the electricity that their eligible solar photovoltaic (PV) system generates subject to the transitional arrangements. Read More
  • Small electricity customers (those with an annual electricity consumption of up to 160 megawatt hours) are eligible to participate in the Scheme.
  • Solar PV systems  up to 10 kilowatts in size will be eligible for the Scheme.
  • The tariff rate of 60 cents per kilowatt hour will be fixed for the life of the Scheme, meaning it will not vary with the time of the day or during the life of the Scheme.
  • The Scheme will commence on 1 January 2010 and will operate for 7 years.
  • The Scheme will be reviewed in 2012, or when the installed capacity of renewable energy generators participating in the Scheme reaches 50 megawatts, whichever occurs first.

NSW Government objectives for the Scheme

  • Encourage and support people who want to act on climate change by generating renewable energy locally.
  • Build the state's green collar jobs sector, by helping solar technology compete with non-renewable energy sources.
  • Expand the visibility of renewable energy technologies to help motivate the whole community in responding to climate change.

The solar credit scheme is not means tested, and is available to businesses as well as households and community groups.

Under the Solar Credits Scheme, small scale renewable energy systems customers receive 5 times the number of RECs. To qualify for the Solar Credit Scheme you must not have previously claimed REC's for a small generation unit (eg, a solar electricity system), at the installation address. REC's created from the installation of a solar hot water system or heat pump, do not effect your eligibility for the SCS.

Larger solar electricity systems create more RECs and therefore further credits would be available.

A 2100KW system in Sydney would create approximately

 $5000 in total credits.

What are Feed In Tarriffs?

Feed-in tariffs can be defined as a premium rate paid to producers of renewable energy. Feed-in tariffs are a way of subsidising renewable energy and can be implemented in conjunction with mandatory renewable energy
